The EDI flow, per order
Each retailer varies in detail, but the sequence is the same. Missing or mismatched documents are what triggers a deduction.
- 01 850 purchase order The retailer’s order received and validated against available inventory and the delivery window.
- 02 855 acknowledgement Order acknowledged with confirmed quantities and ship dates returned.
- 03 856 ASN Advance ship notice transmitted with carton and pallet detail matching what physically shipped.
- 04 810 invoice Invoice issued against the shipment, matching the PO terms and the ASN.
Labels & routing
Where deductions actually originate
GS1-128 label service
Carton and pallet labels generated to specification, with placement and scan quality checked before dispatch.
Routing guide compliance
Carton marking, appointment scheduling, carrier selection, and delivery windows followed as published per retailer.
Pallet configuration
Pallet grade, stack pattern, height, and wrap verified against the guide before the truck is loaded.
MABD & OTIF discipline
Dispatch planned backwards from the required arrival date. On-time in-full depends on complete shipments, not fast ones.
Chargeback prevention
Late delivery, unreadable labels, ASN mismatches, and pallet errors account for most deductions. Each has a pre-dispatch check.
Scorecard support
Shipment and document records retained so vendor scorecard disputes can be answered with evidence.
